EV charger installation is electrical work, and under New Zealand law it must be carried out or supervised by an electrician registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB). Before booking, ask to see proof of registration, and check whether a switchboard upgrade or circuit sizing assessment will be needed for your property, since older Gisborne homes may need extra capacity for a dedicated EV circuit.
If you already have, or are planning, a solar system, ask installers about EV-solar integration so charging can draw on self-generated power where possible. Also compare warranty terms and after-installation support, since chargers vary in coverage length and what happens if a fault occurs after installation.
A straightforward home EV charger installation in the Gisborne area typically costs in the range of $2,500 to $4,000 including the charger unit, though costs can rise to around $5,000 if a switchboard upgrade is required.

It depends on your home's existing electrical capacity. Older switchboards, especially in older Gisborne properties, may need upgrading to safely support a dedicated EV charging circuit - your installer should assess this before quoting.
Yes, EV chargers can be integrated with a solar system so charging draws on self-generated power when available. Ask your installer whether they offer solar-EV integration.
