From blocked and broken drains to new connections, stormwater and wastewater systems, a certified Palmerston North drainlayer keeps water moving where it should, which is especially important given the Manawatū’s damp winters, regular rain and the strong winds that sweep across the plains.

Drainlaying is certified work for good reason: poorly installed drains cause flooding, contamination and expensive damage. In Palmerston North, regular rain and flat, sometimes poorly draining ground put real load on stormwater systems, so use a certified drainlayer for any new or altered drainage, and check they can provide the required compliance paperwork.
For diagnosing problems, CCTV drain inspections pinpoint blockages and breaks without digging blind. Get a clear quote, and for larger jobs confirm whether earthworks, connections and reinstatement are included.
New drainage, altering existing drains, and connecting to council stormwater or wastewater all require a certified drainlayer and usually council sign-off. For blocked or broken drains, a drainlayer can diagnose and repair, often using CCTV to locate the problem first.
It depends on depth, length, access, ground conditions and whether earthworks are involved. Clearing a blockage is far cheaper than replacing a collapsed drain. Get an itemised quote, and for repairs ask whether a CCTV inspection is included to confirm the cause.
Common causes are tree roots, grease and debris build-up, collapsed or misaligned pipes, and in Palmerston North flat sites and heavy rain can also overwhelm older or undersized drains. A CCTV inspection shows exactly what is happening so the right fix is chosen rather than just clearing it temporarily.
Many do, including installing and servicing septic tanks and wastewater treatment systems for properties not on council sewer. If you are rural or lifestyle, ask about experience with on-site wastewater and ongoing servicing.
A camera is fed through the drain to show its condition and locate blockages, cracks or root intrusion. It avoids unnecessary digging and gives you evidence of the problem, which is useful for repairs, pre-purchase checks and insurance.
They overlap but are separately certified. Many Palmerston North firms employ both plumbers and certified drainlayers, but drainage work must be done by a registered drainlayer, so confirm the certification for any drainage job.
