Roofing problems are easy to ignore until they cause real damage, so timely repairs and quality materials pay off. In Napier, where high sun, coastal salt air and the occasional heavy storm test roofs, the right roofing system and proper flashings and fixings make a big difference to how long a roof lasts.
When choosing a roofer, ask about the materials they recommend, what guarantee they offer on workmanship, and how they manage safety and access. Always get a written quote and scope before work begins.
It depends on roof size, pitch, access, the material chosen and how much existing roofing needs removing. Long-run steel such as COLORSTEEL is a common, durable choice. Get an itemised quote that covers removal, underlay, flashings and disposal, not just the new roofing.
Isolated leaks, a few loose fixings or damaged flashings can often be repaired, while widespread rust, age or recurring leaks usually point to a re-roof. A good Napier roofer will inspect honestly and tell you which is the better spend.
Long-run COLORSTEEL steel is the standard across Hawke's Bay, with salt-air-rated coatings worth considering near the coast; many older tile roofs are converted to long-run. The right underlay, flashing detail and fixings matter as much as the roofing material itself, so ask your roofer what they recommend for your home and site.
Most do. Spouting, downpipes and internal gutters are part of keeping water off and away from the building, and gutters need to cope with leaf litter and the occasional intense downpour. Ask whether gutter work is included in your quote.
A standard house re-roof often takes several days to a week or more, depending on size, complexity and weather. Napier conditions can cause delays, so a good roofer will build weather contingency into the plan and keep your home watertight during the work.
Roofing materials usually carry a manufacturer warranty, and reputable roofers offer their own workmanship guarantee on top. Ask what each covers and get it in writing, as the workmanship guarantee is what protects you against install faults.
